A uniquely numbered Chimney Safety Certificate is completed in duplicate for each job: one to the customer, one for record.
It provides a signed record of the state of the chimney, the details of inspecting, sweeping and safety-testing.
It provides independent evidence for home owners, landlords, tenants and Insurers of professional sweeping, outlining what the chimney sweep has done, with a judgement that the chimney is safe to use at the time as far as can be ascertained reasonably in the course of chimney sweeping.
IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER
Obviously, it is not a guarantee or warranty that there are no defects, actual or potential, in the flue or fireplace of natures that are not susceptible or apparent to the routine inspection of the chimney by the chimney sweep. Such a guarantee or warranty could only be given following a full survey by a qualified person.
Many Insurers require a Chimney Safety Certificate and, to meet the requirements of some Insurers and Public Bodies, I have extended Public Liability cover to five million pounds.
